The spring has arrived again, and that means it’s time to hit the great outdoors before the summer heat sets in. Here in Peoria, there are several ways to do just that, whether it’s catching a Cactus League baseball game or just enjoying some time in the local parks. Here’s a look at a great outdoor event that’s fun for kids and adults; Second Sundays in the Park.

Second Sundays, A Favorite Among Peoria Events!

If you and the family are more interested in catching some live music than a baseball game, then you’ll want to check into “Second Sundays at the Park.” Live music performances take place from 2-4 each second Sunday at Surprise Community Park, located at 15953 W. Bullard Avenue in Surprise. Past performers have included Volcano Island, Spirited Lads and several others. This event is always family-friendly and free to attend, but you’ll want to be sure to bring a picnic lunch or a little extra spending money to purchase food and drinks from local vendors.

Surprise Community Park offers a variety of amenities to make your visit enjoyable, and you can even bring your four-legged family members along. On topcouple sitting in the park of the beautiful landscape, visitors can enjoy one of ten ramadas, play a pick-up game of basketball, pickleball or volleyball in their lighted courts, or even go fishing in the 5-acre pond. The dog parks also include shade and drinking fountains for both you and your dog, as well as picnic tables and holding areas.

Now that the weather is perfect for being outdoors, it’s time to explore your city. To find out more about Second Sundays or other Surprise events, contact the Community and Recreation Services Office at 623.222.2000 or find them online at www.surpriseaz.gov/specialevents.
